Wild Bloom Lip Balm

$12

Three ingredients. Coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax. Melted slowly, by hand, in my kitchen, because store balm made my skin angry and I wanted something safe enough for my children. Coconut softens and has been shown to slow certain bacteria. Shea butter comforts dry, eczema-prone skin. Beeswax holds the moisture in and keeps the balm on your lips. No perfume. No dye. Bought from small makers I trust, here at home when I can.

Small batch. I will write back with how to pay and when it ships.

I make this lip balm one tube at a time, in my kitchen, because my own skin could not tolerate the ones from the store.

Synthetic chemicals made me itch, burn, and break out. When my children came, I wanted something I could put on their faces without reading a paragraph of ingredients I did not trust. So I started over with three things: coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax.

I buy them from people I know, close to home when I can. When the local shelf is empty, I still stay inside the country, with small makers I trust. Those shops are the pillar of a town. I would rather pay them than a factory I will never meet.

I melt the oils slowly, on the lowest heat that will do the job. I am not in a hurry. High heat scorches what makes these ingredients worth using. Every cap is put on by hand.

Coconut oil has been used for centuries to soften dry skin. A large part of it is lauric acid, and studies show that acid can slow certain bacteria on the skin. It is one reason this little tube feels clean, not greasy and forgotten.

Shea butter is the comfort. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E. It smooths rough skin and helps it hold the water it already has. People with eczema-prone skin often reach for it because it calms dryness and irritation. It does not cure eczema. It makes the skin less desperate.

Beeswax is the reason the balm stays where you put it. Lips have almost no oil of their own, so they lose water fast. Beeswax lays down a light coat, slows that loss, and stands between you and wind, cold, and dry indoor air. It is also what keeps the tube from melting into a puddle in your pocket.

There is no perfume, no dye, and no ingredient I cannot say out loud. I made it for sensitive skin, including mine. I use it on my children. Friends tell me they use a little on a dry baby cheek, a pet’s paw, a cracked lip, even a cold sore that just wants comfort. Some of us rub it on a dry patch of face. It is the same three ingredients, doing the same quiet work.

If your skin is very reactive, try a dot on the inside of your arm first. A few people do react to beeswax or coconut. I would rather you know that than be surprised.

Wild Blooms. Organic. Homemade. One tube at a time.
